French Hood - Ruby Velvet / Gold Trim / Gold Veil / Ruby and Opal Jewel turkey The Crushed Velvet Tall HatFrench hoods were worn in the second half of the 15th century, the late Tudor and early Elizabethan period. This one is ruby velvet with antique gold trim, a gold chiffon veil and topaz, ruby and opal jewel. These have wire in them to achieve the desired shape and an adjustable elastic band that goes behind the head under the hair.
